Examples: Michigan has Michigan State University, Connecticut has Connecticut State University System, New Jersey has State University of New Jersey (known as Rutgers)

I don't know if you poorly worded the question or didn't explain the game well enough but it has to be fixed. Try saying something like name the states with no universities or university systems containing the word "state". It's not perfect but I think it's an improvement.

@Pats4Life I think what I changed it to makes more sense now.

My home of New Jersey should at least be a bonus- Rutgers is officially "Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey", but nobody ever, EVER calls it that. It's just Rutgers, or at most, Rutgers University.

I agree about Rutgers being a bonus. Everybody just calls it Rutgers, nobody syas the whole name.

It was a bonus originally and I removed it, but thanks for letting me know I should add it back in!

Might want to cut it down to one minute based on the results. It's pretty easy to just guess every state in two.

It's an interesting quiz... I think the guessing every state thing is a problem though. If I were making this quiz I would probably do answer in order, but each one has some sort of clue.

Oooh like the clue is a different 'state' university in the state. Like Morgan State University for Maryland.

I definitely need to type faster (and not mistype Massachusetts 2 or 3 times every time I am racing the clock

@crashintoavan I think I will leave it the way it is right now, but thanks for the suggestion. I believe the real issue is that we cannot select 1 min 30 sec from the timing options. 1 minute is too short, in my opinion, and 2 minutes may be a little long. I would point out, though, that only 15.3% have gotten all 12 answers so maybe 2 minutes is right.

@happyleper Nevada State College is a college, not a university. There is a difference. Colleges are usually much more limited in their degree offerings. Also, notice the title of the quiz.

@cocky: During the run of Coach that was true. Moorhead State and Mankato State changed their names to Minnesota State University Moorhead and Minnesota State University Mankato in 2000 and 1999 respectively.

Particularly odd to me that Virginia and Kentucky are not on the list, since they reference themselves as "commonwealths" rather than states in official language. In particular, VCU is a much more well-known university than is Virginia State.

Pennsylvania is also a commonwealth, yet PCU was a fictional college and PSU is one of the biggest schools in the country.

@dr_stalker - PCU wasn't Pennsylvania Commonwealth University. It was a private liberal arts college in Connecticut called "Port Chester University," which was obviously based on Wesleyan.

@rcr no they aren't. U of Maryland, Hawaii and Nebraska are U of ___ not STATE U ___ of so the states are rightly included in the quiz whereas Michigan and Ohio have ___ STATE schools and therefore wouldn't appear. How hard is this to understand?

Could someone inform Kentucky, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Virginia that they should all be answers here since they are commonwealths, not states? I was sure the 1st, 2nd and 4th would be on here.

There is no Massachusetts State College/University. There is Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. There is Virginia State University as well as Penn and KY even though they are also Commonwealths. I guess we New Englanders named our public colleges wrong.

@Icicle Right now only 43% have at least 9 (out of 13) correct. That shows that either most people can't just name every state in 2 minutes or they actually like to take the quiz seriously.
