Sporcle standard is to count Greenland as an integral part of Denmark, so it should be an official answer, not just a bonus.

@bsd987 You're right. It's included on the Largest Countries quiz. I've changed it to a regular answer. Thanks for pointing that out.

arrrgghhh - it's the Denmark-Greenland thing again. If we're going to be completely technical and correct, the title needs to be changed to "nations" not "countries" because Denmark and Greenland are two different countries within one kingdom/nation - and we should do so every time a quiz involves the UK, France or the Netherlands as an answer.

@chriskotx - No, they are two different nations but the same country as per Sporcle definition of the term. You are confusing the use of the term "home country" or "constituent country" to refer to England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland as an example defintion definition of country. It is a misnomer. Nation refers to a shared cultural body while country is a political entity under the same government. England is a nation; United Kingdom is a country.

great game. I also must commend puckett86 for citing the source of his idea. Dennis Praeger often quotes an old Jewish saying: "Cite the source and save the world." In other words, if we are more concerned with Truth then with credit, everyone benefits.

@bsd987: well, it's called the United Nations..and I dont think that Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, French Guiana or Greenland are members.

@chriskotx - It is called "United Nations" because the name refers not to the member states but to the people they represent, uniting all the cultures of the world under one body for the improvement of human-kind in every country. Sorry, but you are trying to re-define words here.

Great quiz. Just to stoke the fire a little... I remember trying to explain the UK's political situation to an American friend by saying that the USA is several states within one nation, whereas the UK is several nations within one state. Hope that helps :o)

abanazerb I think we were at one time more like several nations within a state as well. Under the Articles of Confederation, for sure. But even in the early years of our Constitution. From Mayberry v Madison, the political ramifications of the Civil War, the New Deal, that has gradually changed, so now we are several states within one nation. Some say for the better, some say for the worse.

No, because every published Sporcle quiz I've seen involving Denmark's land area thus far has included Greenland's area as well.

Great quiz. Would have liked it better if I'd managed to figure out the first on the list - Canada, where I live. Not a bright moment!

@smartster: in fact Argentina is losing ground with respect to population. Historically it was the second most populated country in South America, but since the last years of the 20th century Colombia holds that place. Argentina has a birth rate that resembles more the European than the Latin American one.

@MrVercetti: Shocking indeed. I think it might be because of the distorted Mercator projection maps that we usually use that most people would be surprised by this.

@Zossima - I agree. I thought Argentina was way smaller than it apparently is. Perhaps that is a distortion of a) the maps we use, or b) Northern hemisphere bias? I don't mean in a bad way, just that we naturally focus on ourselves and our immediate contemporaries, and tend to downplay those further away (i.e. Argentina and Australia, for me). I'd still love to visit Buenos Aires, though!
