Missed just Comoros and El Salvador. For a second, I thought .km was Cameroon for some odd reason...

ae could be "Arab Emirates" also. There's something, actually those domain names are the first letters of the countries, in their own languages. And by the name "Clever Domain Names", I thought that they were those easily marketable domain names such as .am, .me, .tv etc.

You should specify that the first letter of the ENGLISH name differs fromn the first letter of the TLD-code.

What's so special about countries using letters from their name in their ORIGINAL language such as Germany, Spain, etc?

@Nobbe Very good point. I added the word English.
@clavinfield Thanks for the idea (and name)!

Also @bsd987 The source lists it as Gambia, and Gambia is widely used on Sporcle, and @TameTheGrendel many countries TLD codes match their English names. A well-known example is Japan, whose Japanese name is Nippon, but has the code JP.

Man, if I had gotten just ONE "saint" country, it would have led me to all the others.

I don't get why "Republic of Ireland" is Ireland, but "Republic of the Congo" can't be "congo"

@deej because there is also the Democratic Republic of the Congo (some people refer to it as Kinshasa Congo).

Seeing as these are the 'English' names, and I know this is somewhat controversial, but surely Ivory Coast, and East Timor would qualify? I know that's not the usual Sporcle tradition, and it's not on your source, but seeing as you did specify it was their English names... Maybe? Just a suggestion. =)

@deej Because Ireland's official name is just Ireland. "Republic of Ireland" is a description, not a name.

The primary official language of Equatorial Guinea is Spanish, not French. It adopted French and Portuguese as quasi-official languages just to join the Francophonie and the CPLP respectively to give the illusion that its vicious dictatorship has international allies.

Perhaps United Kingdom as a bonus? Its ISO 3166-1-alpha-2 code is GB (as shown in your source), and in fact originally .gb was planned to be its TLD, but .uk stuck. The .gb TLD is still officially reserved for the United Kingdom, but it is not possible to register under that domain.
