Fun quiz but I have to question _ _ az. Real word or urban slang?

Oxford, Webster, and Scrabble dictionaries all recognise it. Good enough for me.

Merriam-Webster recognizes "afro" as a word, so I'm not sure I'd use "afar."

Great quiz. My first thought for __fu was "zafu", which is a specific kind of pillow Zen Buddhists sit on to meditate (and my husband is as I type this). It is, however, not recognized by OED so maybe specify that the answers must be in the OED in the game note, or allow this (and afro as above) as alternates?

@Fidelio Afro is a proper noun.
@RachWho My source is the Scrabble Tournament Word List. I've added a link to it. All other lists/dictionaries I've come across are only subsets of that one, and zafu is not on that list.

As a Lost fan I was hoping for a bonus for 'Arzt.' As in, "Dude...you've got some Arzt on you."

Nailed three in the last five seconds. It is funny how that happens.

Even though I knew it wouldn't work, I kept thinking "kung" for the second answer.

compared to most quizzes, this seemed like an eternity. Only needed 1:15. If I didn't know them, there would be more than enough time to get the rest through trial and error.

I do agree to some extent with mrmanheim, I did actually think this was surprisingly quick compared to other quizzes with the same format which I have found challenging. I'm not sure if thats just cos the words were shorter and thus you had a higher percentage of letters, cos the letters were joined, or just because I got lucky this time around, but maybe the time could be shortened a minute or two.

Liked this, good job (although I agree that maybe the time was a little bit too long). But isn't it funny how it's often the most STRAIGHTFORWARD words which are the hardest to get? I sailed through words like -LN- and -rz- but spent forever staring blankly at --GN!!

If you know or can guess where a vowel is it helps to just write down every possibility to guess the remaining letter, only 5 choices.

Darn, all's awry! When that iffy bulb on the sign went out, or else from pure envy, that ogre of a Czar left the door of the kiln ajar on its axle, allowing a spry kiwi who had swum from his isle over aqua seas for an unpaid debt to spill acid and talc over the okra, tofu and orzo stew. How else could one explain acne on the ulna and even an ovum?

This is one of those quizzes where I missed a lot of the commonly guessed words and got a lot of the lesser commonly guessed words... *sigh* "CZ__" seems so obvious in hindsight.

Big fun, puckett86! thank goodness there were almost four minutes left to devote to "KIWI" (brain freeze?) I struck out going through the alphabet for the first letter (definitely brain freeze: KIW?) but still had time to go through it for the last letter. _IWI . . . yay!
