| @JohnShade: I think you're confusing "state/country" and "nation". A state is a sovereign entity, whereas a nation is a group of people with a shared cultural identity. You can make an argument that most of Canada, and Toronto in particular, has a possibility of being in the same nation as, say, New York and Detroit. You could also make the argument that Los Angeles, Oklahoma City, and Boston are in separate nations. Plus, American refers to the entirety of two continents. |
