	What WOULD happen if you were playing Olympic tug-of-war and the rope broke. They should probably make it out of metal instead to prevent that.

	It'd be fun to see rugby and lacrosse make a comeback. Both sports are played internationally.

	Rugby sevens is in for 2016. I would love to see Twenty20 Cricket in too. I like the sound of "water motorsports". I'm picturing some sort of Batcar/Batboat cross-over vehicle. Sounds fun, bring it back! A little known fact is that they also used to award medals for "arty" disciplines such as literature, painting and sculpture.

	I think you should have included some of the discontinued sports in the winter olympics as well. For exampel: Bandy, sled-dog racing and military patrol.

	It is a little known (and hilarious) fact that there were Olympic medals awarded for Art from 1912-1948. They had competitions in painting, sculpture, architecture, literature, and music, I believe usually with an emphasis on athletic themes. [cue "The More You Know" music]

	Argentina has always been very good at polo. It's where many of the top players in the U.S. come from. Not a big shocker. The wealthier classes in South America do a lot of equestrian-based sports.

	@gatesof I don't know about the other two, but bandy was never an Olympic sport. It was a demonstration sport once. That's all.

	they discontinued lacrosse and rugby so they could replace them with sports that required more athleticism....such as badminton and ping pong....

	@moviegoer74: To clarify, there was no error. I think you don't get that there are discrepancies when you put the list of Countries of the world next to the list of Countries that compete in the Olympics...Thus the reason the question was worded differently...Example: The United Kingdom doesn't compete in the Olympics under the same name. Great Britain competes for the UK (Specifically Wales, Scotland, and England) and Northern Ireland citizens (of the UK) I believe can either compete for Great Britain or Ireland (the country).

	Why not also include events in sports that are still around? For example, at the early Olympiads, there were the standing long jump, standing high jump, and standing triple jump. Ray Ewry of the USA won ten gold medals in those events at the 1900-1908 Olympiads (and the Intercalated Games of 1906).

	Neither Denmark nor Sweden won the gold in 1900 tug of war. It was a mixed team and the medal was attributed to the athletes but not the countries. Only two teams competed; they beat France for the gold.

	@psubball1: The British Olympic team is termed Great Britain, but this is just short for Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and is in reality the United Kingdom. It includes England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey. All people born in Northern Ireland are automatically entitled to an Irish passport so many, but not all, nationalists opt to compete for Ireland instead (as well as some of the Protestant community).

	@brownstown511: You've never watched a top-level badminton tournament, have you? I promise you there is plenty of athleticism involved. It's one of the fastest-moving sports on earth. Those players are in tip-top condition.

	@psubball...it is true that there are entities that compete in the olympics that are not countries. Puerto Rico probably would have been a better example. But the use of olympic twice in the question is still redundant. By definition we're talking about "olympic countries" since the question is about what countries have won medals in the olympics. And the question has now been edited twice and still finishes with "a discontinued olympic sports."
