| I definitely wouldn't say League is bigger. For starters, it's only popular in two states, whereas Aussie Rules is the leading winter game in Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory (where the season is in the summer). In terms of the main league's attendance, the AFL garners the fourth-biggest attendance of all sporting leagues around the world (behind the NFL, IPL and the Bundesliga). The NRL ranks 20th on the same list.
In terms of participants, about 200,000 more people play Aussie Rules than league, which is about 200,000 more than those who play cricket. |
