| "Licence" should not count as a mis-spelled word, because US dictionaries should at least recognise UK variant spellings. British English has the verb/noun distinction "to license/a licence", "to practise/a practice" which US English has not retained. These follow the pattern of "to advise/some advice", which helps to recognise and remember the distinction. We also have the correct spellings "offence" and "defence" (although these of course lack the same verb construction, which is "offend" and "defend" as in the USA). |
