Ah, the wild west, mountain states. I suppose it makes sense from a historical standpoint.

"45th lowest" means "5th highest". Just for the record.

@shampoowoody - At the very least, I don't think Hawaii has much cold weather.

easy pattern even for somebody far from US like me... inner, rough states, "no country for women".

@LinuxLinus - the "45th lowest" is actually the "6th highest" - just for the record!

I guessed 35 states in 90 seconds and still got in the 30th percentile? I'm confused. Did many people guess all or close to all 50 states?

I thought this was another stupid "see how many states you can guess" quiz, then I realized all of these states are rural, cold, mountain states (except hawaii). Quite interesting...

I was typing countries for the first 30 seconds... duh. That would be a nice idea for a quiz if it doesn't already exist though.

Isn't Nevada the 47th lowest? New york would be the 4th lowest (4 from the bottom).

Though Minnesota falls just shy of the list, this quiz reminds me of a Guy Noir sketch in Prairie Home Companion, where he gives advice to a female client: "When it comes to looking for single men in Minnesota, the odds are good, but the goods are odd."

The high proportion of men in Alaska and North Dakota can be accounted for the oil industry. And, having been to Colorado, it seemed like in some resort towns like Vail and Breckenridge there were two guys for every woman-not very good dating prospects

It's amazing that more people from these states aren't in favour of homosexuality: it would help solve an urgent demographic problem.

@newenglander While the oil industry does have some demographic impact on Alaska, I believe the military presence is probably more significant, and most important of all would be fishing. (There is more gender equality in the canneries to be sure, but not out on the water.)

Would it really be too much trouble to write --US-- states in the title and the question? Or just mark all your quizzes "For US citizens only." You wasted my time.

^^Really esmeyny? Your time was wasted? If you'd taken an extra, I don't know, one second, maybe five tops if you're a slow reader, to see that the source was US CENSUS, maybe then you could have saved those insignificant two minutes you lost rather than playing this quiz. #nopleasingsomepeople
