| Sorry it was unclear. I hopefully the new note clarifies a couple things, but here is even more detail:
a) the order of responses is chronological, starting with the earliest, ex:
1953
1961
1975
1999
...obviously those are not the correct answers, since they weren't election years.
b)The responses for the other columns match up with the year given on the row they share. The middle column asks for the person who won the election and became president, while the third column asks for the person who received the greatest number of popular votes, but failed to win the election.
c) The elections in question require that a candidate received MORE popular votes than the winner. This eliminates the issue of the very first election.
d) The bonus responses are presidents who won with a plurality of the vote, but actually did not have an absolute majority when votes to all other candidates are added together. |
