A philosopher is simply one who wants to understand the world and how it works, how the mind works, how the being works. How is a scientist different? They see how the world works, and that's what makes them crave to understand it, especially someone like Darwin who completely revolutionized how we looked at the origin of the diversity of life on earth and the interrelationship between all living things, I would say that's pretty philosophical. I mean have you even read On The Origin, especially the last passage? (If not look it up, it is astoundingly profound look up "There is grandeur in this view of life..." passage). Scientists I find are some of the best philosophers because they not simply see the world work but understand it, there is no need to create false dichotomies where there need be none. |
