As of right now, it looks like 27.3% of people taking this quiz have kicked themselves upon finding out the color(s) of Libya's flag.

I typed in "red black gold" and "red blue gold" for Colombia and Germany respectively. Neither worked, so I tried yellow instead of gold. I think there needs to be more leniency on alternative color names.

Rhys get over yourself. If you had made the quiz, Americans wouldn't say to take the u out!

Technically, for Germany it is red black gold: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Germany For Colombia, it is red blue yellow: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Colombia

love this quiz but had the hardest time with Argentina, kept thinking it was Uruguay that has the sun, not Argentina, but they both do. Tried every colour combo possible, including yellow after green and whatnot, but could not come up with that sun! Won't forget it again, 'tho.

I liked this quiz, but, oy, trying to visualize some of these were a bit rough. (Thank goodness the quiz didn't demand the colors in a specific order.)

And darn those Baltic States. I typed in the Latvian flag colors for Estonia and it took me several seconds (and a few tries figuring out why the non-white color wasn't being accepted) before I realized I was thinking of the wrong country.

Green was a starting point for Islamic (and/or African) countries, but it also made me miss Yemen. If not limited to 3 colors per answer, I suggest Seychelles to start the sequel ;-)

lalala above makes a good point. I am British and do get frustrated with americanised spellings, however experts do suggest that when colonising, one thing that settlers keep constant is their language, so perhaps the yanks speak proper English and we Brits have bastardised the language over the years, who know??!!

@Halfwelsh: For you information, just spelling "Color" that way does not mean that we are speaking impropor english. There are just two different ways of spelling the word.

It's not like there is a massive difference between American England and English is there? A substitute z or dropping a U is hardly worth getting out of bed for is it?

@Halfwelsh: Some of the variations were originally errors in transcription (the missing 'i' in 'aluminium') but some of them, especially in isolated areas like Appalachian hollows, are simply English as it was spoken in Britain several hundred years ago ('Have you et your vittles?') It's a shame that these dialects are often mocked in the US instead of being seen as a much earlier version of the English spoken on the CBS news. I write 'colour' too, but for what it's worth (very little) the US version is closer to Latin, as I remember.

@GeordieGuitarist: The difference is greater than a few spelling errors. Yanks don't wear trousers and wait for a train in a subway for instance.

awesome quiz man, I love geographical stuff and the flag challenge on sporcle is good, but this is awesome. When you can't actually see the flag and you have to visualise it, it makes it really good.

@spuntz: But you ask an American what are trousers and they would know. Same as i know what a subway is. It's no different from regional dialects.
