| You have to allow unaccented characters (c and e) in Valery and Francois because most English-language keyboards (i.e. about 80-90% of those using Sporcle) don't have an easy way of entering ç (Alt+0231 on a Windows keyboard) or é (Alt+0233). Also although I myself thought for decades that Mitterrand had only one r (Mitterand), it does in fact have 2 (according to, among other places, Le Petit Larousse Illustré 2004). And if you're going to be technical about spelling, it's Charles de Gaulle (spaced) and Valéry Giscard d'Éstaing (preferred, although d'Estaing is also acceptable). |
