TOS episode The Doomsday Machine was rumored to have featured an anti-Borg weapon (after the TNG episodes aired).

Peter David's novel Vendetta (if that is what you are referring to) is considered a non-canonical work. Also, the Borg never actually appear in the episode, but thanks for the suggestion.
