The full name is the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which includes The Netherlands (in Dutch it's actually Nederland, which is singular), and some islands in the Caribbean. Going to the European part (The Netherlands), there is some strange thing going on between the Dutch name and the English, German, French, Spanish, Italian names. The most used term in Dutch is the singular form Nederland (Netherland), and even though we use it a lot, in the other languages a plural form (logical if you look at the history) is used. |
