	Two things to keep in mind here: "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds." "A language is a dialect with a standing army." (But maybe some dialects without standing armies should count as languages too.) In other words, I'm aware that there will be inconsistencies in which languages/dialects I've listed and omitted, grouped together and separated. Please don't write in to express how deeply offended you are that such-and-such a language wasn't included, or was mashed together with its mortal enemy. I'm not a linguist, although I am interested in philology. That said, I'm well aware of the deficiencies that are bound to appear in a quiz like this compiled by an amateur armed only with his own limited knowledge and Wikipedia. If you have any suggestions for how the quiz could be improved, I would be grateful. I am especially out of my depth with regard to the Indo-Iranian languages. Thanks for playing!

	You're quite right that it's often difficult to draw the line between language and dialect, but surely the omission of Pashto, one of the major Iranian languages, is merely an oversight?

	Sanskrit apparently is still being spoken; there are still native speakers in a few towns in India.

	I understand your quotes and reasoning, but why should Romansch, an official language of Switzerland, be left out?

	It was not left out; I had Rhaeto-Romance/Friulian/Ladin/Romansh as acceptable answers, and have now added Romansch as well.

	It's probably more like Sanskrit was given as a response on the census, or some places have Sanskrit as an official language, even if people do not really speak it (though they may think they do). It would be like saying Italian is Latin - it sort of is, but not exactly. There's no way that modern speakers of "Sanskrit" are speaking the same Sanskrit that existed thousands of years ago, unless they learn it artificially, in school or as a revival language. The sources in Wikipedia's Sanskrit article even say that the children have learned it in school (this has been poorly summarized by Wikipedia, apparently).

	@AdamBishop--I've looked at the sources (I hadn't before) and I think it would be more like if a schoolteacher in an Italian village started teaching all the kids Latin, they began to speak it outside of class, and then the whole village started to pick it up and use it. If such a village existed, would that make Latin acceptable for this quiz? I'm not certain. Maybe I should take Sanskrit off, since there's apparently not an unbroken line of people speaking it. @rca--I did accept "Slovene" and have now added "Slovenian" as an alternate. Thanks!

	I think the prevailing theory on the whole Sanskrit thing is that people just put the wrong answer on their census forms. Most agree that it's a dead language. And if your criterion is "unbroken line of people speaking it," Cornish and Manx shouldn't be on here. Both died out and are only recently being revived (to a very small extent I might add). You also seem to have Tati on here twice.
