Hull! I was wondering what the hell began with a K. That was a cheeky one.

(I'm British) I've never heard of Fareham or Tamworth! For J, maybe Jedburgh? Uxbridge for U? These are not particularly big places but they're all I can think of for those letters.

Uttoxeter also for "U", as Uxbridge is a suburb really. You could probably also put Vale Royal in there, even though it isn't really a town, just so you have a V. And persnoally, I would replace Fareham with Fife.

Fife isn't even a town is it? I do think Telford is bigger than Tamworth but not listed on the source for some reason. Plus as said I'm sure at least some of the missing letters could be filled in (maybe not x and z). V could be Ventnor (IOW), Q Queenborough or Queensferry

Zennor in Cornwall. Only 217 people in the 2001 census, but better than nothing. Telford's population in the 2001 census was 138,241 so not certain why the World Gazetteer omitted it.

Also, Upminster has 25,000 and Uttoxeter 12,000, though they use different sources and Upminster may be included in London figures so either may be correct.

Interesting, I was convinced that Portsmouth was bigger than Plymouth but have now looked it up and the quiz is right! Thanks for the education peanut4.

T should definitely be Telford. Debatable whether Cardiff is bigger than Coventry.

I was thinking Newcastle for N, not Nottingham. Fulham wouldn'twork for F because it's part of London. Also, N - Nottingham and Newcastle. I think they are almosy equal on population.

The largest J may be Jarrow in the north east. Fareham is quite an obscure place for a reasonable sized town. I'm not sure if much ever happens there!

@Statto2 Fareham is popular for for people who work in Portsmouth or Southampton as it's about equidistant from both.

@Vespinito: If you look at the statistics table from which the population of Tamworth was taken from on Wikipedia, you will see that the population of Telford Urban Area is twice the size of Tamworth yet the population of the town proper is only around 40,000, making it smaller than Tamworth.

Despite being mercilessly downvoted, Happ_Hazzard has a point: if you exclude the surrounding metropolitan area, the City of London is one of the least populous cities in the UK (~7000 people). In fact I was half expecting that to be a trick answer on this quiz.

Got 11 of them. Not bad for an American, I suppose. Wasted a lot of time trying to come up with the W one, which I was sure had to begin with West, and my brain wasn't even coming up with cities: "Westminster Abbey? No... West Ham United? No..."

allydfc12 - the metropolitan borough of Wakefield may be more populous than that of Wolverhampton but the town of Wakefield is certainly not as populous as Wolverhampton itself.

According to the source, Fareham is a conurbation of Fareham and Portchester, so should be replaced.
