| MUDPILES is an outdated mnemonic. REDMULES is better. It substitutes an "R", standing for Rhabdo, which is by far one of the most common causes of gap acidosis... and takes out Paraldehyde, which isn't even around anymore, hasn't caused an acidosis in years.
Also, it takes out "Infection" which is wrong as it's just the lactate from sepsis that causes the acidosis, and adds another E, for Ethanol, another common cause.
Also, should accept DKA and lactate as acceptable alternates for those answers. |
