your source gives the name of the azerbaijan and the israeli players with different spellings than what's accepted here, and it also gives the Northern Irish player as Pat Jennings, not George Best.

In the press release on 29 November 2003, Sergey Kvochkin and Pat Jennings were listed as the Golden Players of Kazakhstan and Northern Ireland respectively. However, in the player profiles posted by UEFA.com in 2004, Evgeni Jarovenko and George Best were listed instead. It is not clear what are the reasons for the discrepancies. I accepted both players for N. Ireland and Kazakhstan.

Both the spellings on UEFA.com and on the quiz are acceptable considering that both are transliterated names. I would petition sporcle editors to make Banishevski acceptable for Azerbaijan and Shpigler for Israel.

Tried Hansen for Scotland, was surprised to get the Faroe Islands player, since his name's not Hansen.

This is definitely one of the tougher football quizzes on here. I only got 16 players right and I haven't even heard of most of the players i didn't get.

Nice idea. But it's a real tough quiz and for that reason not the most enjoyable - however, that's not the fault of the quizmaster.

Very tough, which is nice. Delighted to get 18 - the number of Germans from the 70s, 80s and 90s I guessed without ever thinking back to Fritz Walter.

who picked these players? Fontaine over Platini, Walter over Beckenbauer, Larsson over Ravelli. Was half expecting Eusebio to have missed out

I assume they went for Fritz Walter because he played and won the World Cup for a unified Germany rather than West.

Should accept 'Alvarez' for Andorra's 'Koldo', his was the first name I entered & I was surprised not to get it correct. Should have tried Koldo I guess...

'Hansen' is accepted for the Faroe Island player as his full name is Abraham Lokin Hansen.

@olly26c: No he didn't, he was playing for West Germany in 1954, a united Germany has never won the World Cup.

31. Niiice. Since I'm from the former Yugoslavia, I knew 5 instantly. I don't know how, but I forgot Law. But I remembered Bonini, the man who declined to play for Italy because of his homeland. Wow. Anyway, GREAT QUIZ!
