It sucks that the BNP gets so many votes.

The BNP won't get an MP under the first past the post system. However if Clegg manages to push through his referendum on proportional representation and wins, then under that system the BNP will certainly take seats in the Houses of Parliament.

UUP and "Ulster Unionist" ought to work for "Ulster Conservatives and Unionists - New Force"

Vanguard elected 3 MPs in February 1974, according to Wikipedia.

@johnlk: Thanks - Ulster Unionists would have worked, but I have now amended it to accept Ulster Unionist as well as UUP. I have also amended the Feb 1974 entry. Unfortunately, when I was creating this one, Sporcle randomly lost half of my data not once but about six times, so I'm not completely surprised that an error got through. Apologies to all who have played.

@HiddenPalace yeah, seeing all those BNP, NF and UKIP votes is not exactly convincing me that "proper democracy" is really what the UK needs.

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you, that the Monster Raving Loony Party isn't on this list.

Democracy is about letting people who you don't necessarily agree with have a say too, so yeah, it is.

The BNP are less likely to gain seats under AV which is why they opposed it.

STV based on recreated historic counties for a lower house, with PR based on the four nations for the upper house.
