I'm always astonished that Absalom, Absalom! didn't make the list. Are there really people who think that "The Bridge of San Luis Rey" or "Zuleika Dobson" or "From Here to Eternity" are better? Or did they just not want to have four novels by the same author?

Sucks to be a sci-fi writer. Heinlein, Wolfe, Asimov, Clarke, Bradbury? Rubbish, apparently.

Once Lord of the Rings wasn't on there I quit. Not a knock against the quiz, but instead a knock against the list.

Lord of the Rings is middle-brow schlock made for the same people who try to sync up "Dark Side of the Moon" and "The Wizard of Oz" and also believe Jabba Hut is a prescient warning about the dangers of overeating.

They tried doing this as a poll instead, and got the Ayn Rand/L. Ron Hubbard dominated list at http://www.sporcle.com/games/modernlibrarynovels_readers.php .
