@Auguste: I believe the quiz asks for present capitals of former Soviet Republics. But it could be a nice addition to include it besides Astana (in some way)

Some of the capitals (and the countries) were named differently in Soviet times. Moldavia for Moldova, Kishinev for Chisinau, Byelorussia for Belarus, Frunze for Bishkek, Tiflis for Tbilisi (the latter is still same in Turkish language)

Please accept Moldavia for Moldova, Byelorussia for Belarus, Kirgizia for Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenia for Turkmenistan, Tallin for Tallinn, Kiev for Kyiv, Kishinyov/Kishinev for Chisinau, Alma Ata/Almaty, Frunze for Bishkek. Thank you.

I think Russia probably isn't guessed much because most people think the USSR is Russia.

Ulashima is right. This quiz is a bit misleading as it indicates that you're looking for answers as they were while the Soviet Union was in existence, not as the countries now exist today. Please either make a note that you're looking for the MODERN country names and capitals in the instructions, or change the answers to the historically correct ones.

@ everyone. It does say name countries and capitals that "used to be" in the USSR, hinting that it wanted the names as they appear today. I like this quiz, i never thought knowing the former USSR countries would be useful. I did not however get all the capitals, i have a blind spot for the "stan"s' capitals. Also can anyone tell me if there is a reason all the names have changed since USSR times? Moldavia sounds like someone making up a country name on the spot

Many countries changed their names, names of their capitals even street names from the russian language to the national language of the new nation or for other political reasons. Frunze was the russian officer who built a garison a Bishkek, the russians named the city after him when they made it capital of the kyrgyz ssr after independence the kyrgyz changed it back, as an example.
