Here's the key to it: if it's good, it's Pixar; if it's mediocre, it's Dreamworks.

Just a suggestion, but maybe add a few more movies and a "neither", or possibly Disney, category to make the quiz a little more difficult, b/c I think most people know all of the Pixar movies that have been released...so they automatically know the non-Pixar movies must be Dreamworks.

@Manticore and @timisballin5 For the most part its true that Pixar is much better than Dreamworks. But Shrek (the first and second not the awful last 2) is much better than Ratatouille, Wall-E, Cars, and Finding Nemo. I have it above the Incredibles also but most other people don't.

I would think most people wouldn't put the first 2 Shreks above Wall-E either. Wall-E's tops!

Umm, Chicken Run was only distributed by Dreamworks, but it was the work of Aardman. Also, I think this is a bit limited by not including other animation studios, such as Blue Sky or even Disney proper.

just to expand on this entirely subjective argument, Ratatouille, Wall-e and Finding Nemo all score higher on IMDB, MetaCritic, and Rotten Tomatoes than either Shrek or Shrek 2. Not to rag on Dreamworks, I remember being blown away when I saw Shrek for the first time.

This list seems to be missing what is arguably Dreamwork's best film, How To Train Your Dragon.

@Manticore for the most part, but movies like Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda and Over the Hedge... those four atleast are good... better than a mediocre film.

Weird: For me, the first column was all Dreamworks and the second one was all Pixar, except for the first and seventh movie in each column.

I can't seem to watch Shrek without hearing Mike Meyers using the same Scottish accent in Austin Powers 2 to say "I've got a crap on deck that could choke a donkey!"

I'm the kind of person that gets really annoyed when people ask "Is Madagascar Pixar?". In my opinion Pixar animations are far better, although Dreamworks films are still enjoyable.

@manticore, it's honestly not that the Dreamworks movies are mediocre. Most are pretty good and a couple are excellent. It's just that Pixar has set the bar so insanely high for animation that unless your last name is Miyazaki, you're pretty much hosed.

I think it's significant that I was able to get a perfect score on this just by knowing which of these titles were the classic/beloved Pixar favorites ... Dreamworks? whatever

While I wouldn't say Pixar=quality, I would say that Pixar would never let something of 'Madagascar' quality be released.

It's tough for me to weigh in on the "who is better" discussion, but I find it interesting I've watched 7 of the 10 Pixar movies on this quiz, but only 2 of the Dreamworks. Perhaps that is all that needs to be said.

While Dreamworks may not have struck gold as often as Pixar, they do have a few good films. I have to say that I loved Kung Fu Panda (and its sequel) and How To Train Your Dragon as much as any Pixar film... maybe even more than some of their fare. To anyone who says that Dreamworks movies don't have the heart of Pixar's, just watch HTTYD.

Surprised myself by getting them all. I mostly watch Pixar, so if I didn't recognize the title, I just did a D and got them right.

I didn't find this quiz quite as easy as everyone else did. I guess these days I'm just as familiar with one company as the other. However I did get a pretty good score. As far as who is better, well Dreamworks created maybe my favorite animated film ever...Prince of Egypt...so I'm certainly not knocking them.

You have to make the "full" titles "pixar" and "Dreamworks" show as wrong answers. "P" or "D" gives a wrong answer, but if you type so fast that it skips those letters (I was typing full names and eventually copy-pasting) because I missed the note that "P" or "D" was acceptable, it doesn't ring in as wrong, and you know to correct it.

There's room in this world for both Pixar and DreamWorks. They're Charlie Chaplin and the Marx Brothers. One is heartbreaking comedy that makes you laugh, and the other is belly-laugh comedy that has a heart.
