@oldkent Source? As of what year?
| sproutcm: | Oct 16th, 2011 at 05:45 GMT | | 3 points |
@oldkent Well, wikipedia is a source, but not a good one. Also this data listed on your link is 11 years old, and still doesn't appear in the question. I'd track down the links in the references from Wikipedia and try to get recent data and update this quiz.

The lists on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_%28PPP%29 are more up to date; I think the list of countries is still the same, but the percentages are notably different.

Once Saudi Arabia didn't work, I didn't bother with any other oil producers....but I forgot about all those "Made in Iran" toys I had as a kid.

@jshorne: First, Sporcle isn't the place for political propaganda. Second, educate yourself and it will help you to avoid saying stupid things.

Oh dear. Is this probably the most misleading quiz ever published by Sporcle? Yhe author has used PPP - Purchasing Power Parity. That is not real GDP. It just tells you that you can buy a lot for a little in China and India. This is meaningless in terms of GDP in international terms. This has been discussed extensively in Sporcle forums in the past so how it has crept through I have no idea.

This link will provide some real figures: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal)#section_1. GDP (Nominal) and GDP (PPP) are very different beasts. Try spending a Dollar/Euro/Pound in NYC/Paris/London and then in Mexico City/Beijing/Mumbai and you will soon understand why this quiz is fatally flawed.

China's getting close to US but since they have 4 times the population, our GDP per capita has an enormous lead.

"Great Britain" should be accepted for "United Kingdom". Most Sporcle quizzes want Great Britain as the answer.

After typing North Korea and South Korea, I instinctively typed Marilyn Monroe.

Gah! Overthought it again... I got the G7, BRIC, and was racking my brain over who else from the G20 would be on the list... lo and behold, neither of those I missed are G20

It's mind opening to find some countries with huge impoverished populations not on this list like Pakistan and Bangladesh, while other countries with in comparison tiny populations that are quite wealthy like Canada, Australia, and Taiwan.

I actually typed I R A, and then said, "naah," and deleted them. Would it have killed me to have typed in just one more letter?

For this to be anything other than a memorizing test, we need more than 2 minutes.
