Do you mean "Socialist" as in "Communist"? Because iff so there are fewer countries to which the label apllies. If you mean "Socialists" as in "countries currently having a socialist/social-democrat government" I counted at least 80 as of January 2010 but I think I'm underestimating the true figure...

It is very difficult to distiguish between socialist and non-socialist countries. I would not call North Korea and China socialist countries, because they are both ruled by a small rich and powerful minority. You could add some countries, e.g. Bolivia.

Your definition isn't the normal one. Consider editing.

Agreed, this is subjective and extremely faulty. For instance, Spain has a socialist prime minister, Venezuela is NOT socialist, nor is North Korea.

India is definitely not socialist by any definition.

India is so socialist, that's why they have a Maoist insurgency.
