| This is an interesting quiz because it makes you think. The poorest/worst off countries aren't making this list, because the people have high birth rates and few opportunities for emigration. Likewise, the richest, most well-off countries aren't making the list either, because despite low birth rates, emigration is low and immigration tends to make up for that shortfall. So you're looking for countries with relatively low birth rates, decent enough wealth to and mobility to provide emigration opportunities, but relatively poor situations at home, especially compared to the neighbours. It makes sense that the quiz is dominated by former Soviet countries, because you still have massive waves of emigration, especially from the new EU members, where the people are free to move anywhere within Europe for better opportunities. Birth rates in that part of the world also tend to be fairly low, so population growth doesn't make up for emigration. Japan was a surprise, mind you. |
