nyg88 - Originally Marble Hill was part of the island of Manhattan, in 1895 the Harlem River Ship Canal was built making Marble Hill its own island, in 1914 the original river bed around Marble Hill was filled in making the area part of the mainland. Since then Marble Hill has been part of the mainland and continuous with the Bronx though politically part of the borough of Manhattan meaning the Broadway bridge connects the island of Manhattan to the mainland while not actually reaching the Bronx.
Another bridge to consider is the Roosevelt Island Bridge that connects to Queens since Roosevelt Island is part of the borough of Manhattan, though not the island of Manhattan |
