| @Peterlie: traditionally Mexico has been considered part of North America (for example, Mexico is a signatory to the North American Free Trade Association treaty along with Canada and the US). The United Nations Geoscheme groups Mexico in Central America, but this is a fairly recent development. While the the UN Geoscheme is interesting I don't think it should be definitive. It was created largely as a way of grouping regional statistics and therefore I'm not sure it should be regarded as anything more than that. I think the current consensus on Sporcle is that Mexico is part of North America, but I guess that's subject to change over time. |
