the atchafalaya river itself is only 140 miles...it's 1,420 when you add the red river to it...http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/40478/Atchafalaya-River

Thanks... I knew that when I put the quiz together. It seems a little illegitimate, but the US Geological Survey considers 1,420 miles to be its official length so that's what I had to go with. There are similar issues with the Mobile and St. Lawrence rivers, but since the USGS is the authoritative source I figured I needed to follow their list.

If the Atchafalaya River is 1,420 miles long, there is no way it's just in Louisiana.

I'd say go against the USGS. It's clearly inaccurate; just adjust it to fit the needs of this quiz.

Plus, it's a little bit disingenuous to say the St Lawrence is 1900 miles in New York when only a part of the river is actually in the country. It would seem better to only include the part of the river that's actually in (or forming the border of) the US rather than the entire length.
