	Got'm all, good game! Some suggestions: Lutetia(Paris), Zaire(Congo),... (just suggesting eh) Talking about weird names: how about a game where you write down the names of countries in their native languages and you have to guess 'm? Looks lovely to me =)

	I may be opening a portal for vast wikipedia quotes, but I believe Burma and Myanmar are both acceptable names for the country, depending on whose side of the current civil conflict you fall.

	Burma was renamed Myanmar by the junta. Those who do not recognise the junta tend to call it Burma, so to include it here would be very controversial.

	I got Malawi out of logic because almost its entire east border is Lake Nyasa. The name Nyasaland hinted Lake Nyasa, hinting Malawi

	11 out of 14, a couple of these were tough. Hate to be picky but some of them don't really belong as 'renamed' places. Ceylon was 'renamed' Sri Lanka but the Sri Lankans reclaimed the ethnic name they had been using for hundreds of years. I think the same applies to Mumbai.

	John2, Charlestown was not renamed Boston. Charlestown was another settlement across the rivers that is now a neighborhood in Boston.

	You could add Dacia for Romania, Lusitania for Portugal, and Hibernia for Ireland.... there's always tons of ancient or former names for places! Could do lots of quizzes on this one!

	In that same light, Caledonia could be Scotland. I realize this is splitting hairs and all, but couldn't Belgium be acceptable for Gaul? Gallia est omnis divisa in partes tres and all. Or, I guess, you could just add Gallia Belgica.

	@MattJ Shocked it took so long for someone to mention that. True enough that what was Gaul included what is modern day France but it that was only about 80% of Gaul and thus doesn't really belong here. Good quiz though...I think I have now learned more in 2 weeks on sporcle than I did in 15 years of school.

	Lusitania has nothing to do with Portugal, whatsoever. That former Roman province territory almost went until Modern Madrid ! One can say more accurately is that the centre and south of Portugal corresponds to a large part of the Lusitania, nothing more. Portugal was founded in the XI century AD not in the roman times. lol > I'm Portuguese.

	This was a nice though short quiz! Gave up with 4:41 on the clock because it wouldn't accept my Zimbabwe and as for Nyasaland, I couldn't nail it... and yeah, 6 minutes is way too much.
