| I still think that "Washington" should be an acceptable answer for the capital of the United States. As Admiral Maxtreme pointed out, the District of Columbia Organic Act of 1871 revoked the charters of the individual municipalities within in the District of Columbia and established a new city government for the entire district. Admiral Maxtreme is right, the city is now legally known as "The District of Columbia." At times, it is commonly referred to as "Washington," "Washington, D.C.," and "D.C." In fact, the terms "Washington" and "District of Columbia" are used interchangeably to refer to the same entity. Therefore, there really is no good reason not to accept "Washington" as an answer. And just a note: the fact that a capital may share a name with a state or multiple other cities in the same country does not necessitate further distinction of the capital city's name to be an acceptable answer for this quiz. That's not how it works. |
