	I only got 12/21... embarrassing since I've read both Snorra-Edda and Voluspa... I can remember neither Nerthus nor Eostre, and I really don't think Skadi belongs there, as she was a Jotunn. And could you please include alternate spelling for Weiland, Völundur/Volundr?

	Trying to research the many and various names (and spellings) wasn't nearly as easy as it ought to be. Teutonic and Germanic gods are many and various, and it's (some of) those that are "Norse"... (Bizaarely, I do remember learning about some of them at School, but can't now source the textbooks.) EMILY HOWARD: Skadi does seem to be "married into" the pantheon, but she also seems (mildly) more known than some of the other possible names... I tried to include what variants I could corroborate, and I'll see if I can get those added. :o)

	Why have I been living under the impression that Freyja and Frigge were the same goddess if they are in fact two goddesses? I'm sure I've seen other sources use them interchangably.

	@ntnon: After doing some research I see that Skadi is sometimes referred to as Ondurgud, which explains why she may also be counted as a goddess. But mainly (and that was what I remember from school and confused me) she was the gods bride, and married Njordur, and later Odin (as well as having an affair with Loki, who like her is a jotunn, but traditionally counted as a god). @jack: I got 12 on my first try, but missed some I really should have known. And I'm an Icelander.

	See, now this is just another reason why more people should be listening to metal. You would have been guarenteed a respectable score if you knew your folk/pagan metal. It got me a 14/21 (+1 bonus) - would have gotten me more if I investigated song titles a little more, too.

	Four of them should be very obvious to Native English speakers. Four days of hte week are named after them: Tuesday is for Tyr, Wednesday is for Oden (Woden), Thurday is for Thor, and Friday is for Freyja.

	bonethumper, the reason why we know about any of these myths is because Christian priests recorded these stories during the 12th and 13th centuries. you sound completely ignorant.

	Perhaps some alternate spellings for Baldr [Balder] and Sif [Siv] I am a Norwegian speaker and I've never seen those spellings before. Other than that great quiz! I think most populous Norsk cities and Common/Popular Scandinavian bands would be awesome quizzes as well. And possible some on the Norwegian language?

	Nice quiz.. @jack: Being Scandinavian myself I knew them all - I even think some are missing, but then again there is an insane amount of gods and goddesses and heroes in Norse mythology.. I agree with Jill that some spelling are really weird for those of us familiar with the Scandinavian spellings. Maybe the old Islandic spellings come closest to the originals and should be considered as alternatives?

	I learned a lot about norse in high school in my mythology class and got 11; however, they didn't spend near as much time as they did on greek and roman. I don't think the latter two are as interesting.

	@Vegtramer: I'm Icelandic and I was able to use my (old) Icelandic spelling for most of them (I asked for alternate spelling on Weiland, and that has been fixed now, and could not use our precious thorn, but still). I must admit though that I can remember neither Nerthus and Eostre, and they would almost certainly be spelled differently anyway. @ed martin: A valkyrie is simply a synonym over all the female charachters that choose which men get to be killed in battle and come to Valhalla. There are many valkyries and they each have their own name, examples of valkyrie names are Gunnr, Hildr, Hrist, Mist and Reginleif.

	VEGTRAMER: There are indeed an absurd number of potential-gods, minor-goddesses, borderline-both, etc., etc. Confused considerably by a tendancy to lump a vast array of different, similar and conflated pantheons and individuals under headings such as 'Germanic Pagan'. There should be some additional godly individuals/related people showing up as bonus answers, but I hope the "main" ones are there. Old spellings and variant spellings can probably be added without too much difficulty - but some were more difficult to locate than others (plus answer-field character-limits proclude some lengthly lists of variants...) but I'll see if and what can be added.

	ED MARTIN: "Valkyrie," "Valky(j)r," etc. is (if I understand it right) a generic term for a single female individual, or collected group of the same. Not named after a particular god; nor spirits of particular gods. The word apparently is composed of two terms, roughly equating to "chooser" and "(of the) slain." They bear the warriors slain on the battlefield to Valhalla.

	MAGISTER: Apparently, the etymologists are fairly categoric (if at the same time mildly ambivalent) that Friday is not named after Freyr, but named after Frigga. Or Freyja. Or both. Rather than a direct attribution, it's said to be a translation of "Day of Venus," with Frigga and Frejya both being the counterpart to the Goddess of Love. So even when the original wording suggests the name of the (twin?) brother of Freyja, it's just because the two ("Lord" and "Lady") are so similar. Or so they say!
