	@hscer: I guessed Brazil, too. Yeah, ironic that in the country that produces so much coffee, it is unaffordable to many. In Latin America, coffee vs. tea consumption tends to follow economic/class lines. Costa Rica has a stronger middle class, so consumption is more at European levels.

	This is a fairly bizarre list. It is probably physically impossible for the Finns to drink that much coffee. If we assume that 20% of the population are too young or infirm to imbibe (or abstain), then the rest are drinking over two litres (3.67 imperial pints/73.3 fluid ounces) every day. That would probably kill them very quickly, but not before the onset of psychosis. The list on wikipedia is very different. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_coffee_consumption_per_capita I know from personal experience that we in Britain drink considerably less than most of our European neighbours. The ranking at 8th is total nonsense. The wiki ranking at 47th is much nearer the mark.

	The UK figure looks wrong in 8th place especially with the USA at 16th ? And they drink 3 times as much tea as coffee . I think I know why the Finn are number one . It's because it's so cold that the Finn's never get to finnish their cuppa before it goes cold (they're not permitted to bring their coffee inside their sauna ) and thus have to pour a new one which then also goes cold and so on etc.

	I'm pretty sure Finland comes top of the EU for violent crimes and suicides too - maybe they need to calm down a bit. And my personal experience chime with those above - Brits drink less coffee than Italians or Austrians in my observations

	It always amazes me how we can get around 12 percent of people not guessing the UK in these kinds of quizzes. It's proabably going to be there when the US is (99.5% guessing correctly), and at two letters it's no Bosnia and Herzegovina and therefore has got to be worth a guess.

	In wonder how the list would be if we listed the eactual amount of coffee used per capita and not cups of whatever is considered coffee drunk. I know for a fact that a Dutch coffee is 4 times stronger than the average American watery muck. And Italian or Greek coffee is much stronger still.

	Liters per capita is a pretty weird measurement for this - I mean, doesn't it really just make it a "who drinks the weakest coffee" contest instead? Kilograms/pounds of coffee beans per capita would make a lot more sense.

	Have to agree with those questioning the measurements used. Strength of coffee is key. It would be like comparing alcohol consumption saying country A drinks 2 pints a day & country B only drinks 1, then it turns out country A is drinkng beer and country B is drinking vodka!

	To all those saying “from personal experience, I KNOW this is wrong!!”: personal experience does not statistics make. Unless you've spent time living in a lot of different parts of your country, at several different levels of affluence and education, in a range of subcultures, your personal experience isn't wide enough to be representative. I know first-hand that students and academics in Pittsburgh probably drink slightly more coffee than middle-class families in York, but how does that prove anything about UK vs. US habits in general?

	Be that as it may P_t I also think there's something VERY weird about a coffee-consumption ranking which has no mention of Italy, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Lebanon (or any Mideast country) and Costa Rica as the only nation in Latin America making the list. A fun game, but that much skew to scandinavia & eastern/central europe just can't be right.

	While the wikipedia list does include Italy and Brazil (near the bottom), a moment's reflection should explain why scandinavia and Canada tops both lists. They spend much of the year in darkness, or with short days; coffee is kind of critical to having any kind of energy in those circumstances. I would bet that consumption drops in the summer, but as one develops tolerance to the effects over time (not to mention some physiological dependence), probably not enough to make up for the massive winter use.

	At first I expected Italy to be on the list too, but then I thought about it a bit more. The majority of the coffee I've seen drunk in Italy comes from thimble sized cups. You'd need about 10 to fill a large starbucks cup. What do most of these countries have in common? 1) They are affluent - i.e. they can afford a lot of coffee. 2) They are northerly and have relatively cold climates. I never want a large cup of hot coffee in Italy in August, but it's a different matter in the UK.

	I'm guessing that Italy isn't on here because the list is by liter of beverage, not by amount of caffeine. Italians probably consume about as much caffeine using a far smaller amount of liquid as, say, Americans. The coffee shop was, after all, an Italian invention. I'm guessing that Italians consume a lot of caffeine, but not so much in the total liquid category. More punch for the pint.

	I'm wondering about no Italy (Espresso, Latte Macchiato, Mocca, ...), Austria (famous "Wiener Kaffeehaus" etc...) and Turkey ("Turkish coffee") on the list. But maybe Bretzky tells us one possibility why Italy isn't on the list. I also agree with basilutter.
