This is one of those quizzes that is super-awesome because the concept is so simple and makes you think of a set of data in an enirely new way.

A great way to use my chemical engineering degree and my love of Scrabble. But I missed some easy ones.

Would've sworn that Tungsten'd be the least guessed. Guess those with the strange abbreviations were more likely candidates anyway.

Errm...with both L and I being worth 1, surely Li (lithium) should be on the quiz:)

@halloweem- this quiz is about the point values of the words, not the symbols. if it were asking about symbols under 10 points, nearly ALL of the elements would be on here (except for maybe the ones with Z or two high point letters)- since it is asking for the elements, lithium would be 1+1+1+4+1+1+3=12 points. that doesnt work.

Damn Sulfur got me... us awkward Brits spell that one differently too, it wouldn't make it on a British Scrabble board. Too US-centric moan moan moan blah blah blah etc. ;) Nice quiz btw!

There were a few on here that I thought of (like uranium) but then discarded them in my mind because I thought they wouldn't be in there.

I guess that the ones ending in -ium had to be short because of the "m" with their kind of long name

Those complaining about the spelling of sulfur may wish to have a look at how the (British) Royal Society of Chemistry spells the word: http://www.rsc.org/chemsoc/visualelements/pages/sulfur.html

Sulphur was the name of the element from around 1400 (well before the US was even an independent country) and was only described as sulfur officially in 1990. Sadly for the English language the Royal Society of Chemistry decided to adopt the erroneous 'Sulfur' very recently. Sad times.

Yes it is difficult when inferior individuals decide to change spellings to make it easier for their brains to understand as they did for sulphur.

@both johnny74 and lewislotr89 Assuming that the name comes from Latin (which seems fair with English), the original spelling was "sulfurium." You were the ones who changed it, and we corrected you. Nannynannybooboostickyourheadindoodoo
