	I always thought May was named after the month or the alternative name for hawthorn. I didn't realise that it has been used as a diminutive of Mary, too. You learn something new every day :)

	I know your source has it as a name of French origin derived from Mary, but Marion was originally a man's name, and had nothing to do with Mary (e.g. John Wayne was originally Marion Morrison). Marian was the feminine form of Marion, and so also had nothing to do with Mary. However, it is on your source, so I'm not contesting it, just saying that that site might not be the greatest, reliability-wise.

	Behind the Name is probably the most reliable internet source for first name etymology. But to add from Withycombe: "Marion was originally a diminutive in -on of Mary. It was common in the Middle Ages and later." This is a rare name that was used on males after first being used on females, possibly because of confusion with Marian, which has two sources - one, an alternate spelling of Marion, and the other, a male name derived from Latin Marianus. (Sources: Behind the Name + latest edition of Oxford's name dictionary.)

	six months later...I also missed Mia. On the other end of the time-scale, I also missed Mamie, the nickname of my beloved great-aunt. On the Marion front, I have two books that confirm its place on this list as a diminutive of Mary.
