Banging my head for missing the 1990s versions. Every other girl in my daughter's preschool had one of these names. Very nice lay-out. :)

Fun idea, completely missed that it didn't have to end in "lyn." Hate when that happens.

Brooklyn didn't even occur to me and it's such a common name now! I find it interesting how it wasn't even a name the whole way through and it suddenly rocketed to the top :)

I was kind of surprised not to see Lynette make it even once. I love name quizzes. Great job. I do think you'll get tons of complaints about "too much time." Frankly, I don't care, but a lot of people seem hung up on that. Since so many of the answers appear multiple times, 10 minutes is going to seem like a lot to those people whose personal feelings of worth are overly dependent on out-doing others on Internet quizzes. Cue the flood of comments from people thinking it's clever or original to rank on the names parents give to their children. Three...two...one...

I dislike geographical names in general, but Brooklyn? Why not just name the kid Staten Island?

What about King Henry VIII's 2nd wife, Amberlyn? And I'm sure Captain Corelli played Amandalyn. Oh well, it's almost the time of year for Christmas Carolyn.

Looking at the 1990s and 2000s, well, at least parents were creative and original with their spelling.

Ugh, and in the next decade, will there be several more ways to spell something that sounds like Kaitlyn so they fill the top five completely? @Jerdoggiedog, Staten Island sounds better than The Bronx. @flixuk, yo uhad me rolling--I actually tried Amberlyn, just in case, before I read your comment. Finally, I hope whoever named their kid Ethelyn was a petrochemist.

Let me introduce my daughters: Ethelene Glycol (Ethelyn is just, so, 1910, y'know), and our youngest, Brooklyn Heights. If we have another we're going to name her after one of the Monsanto seed strains. I here it's going to be the next big trend!

@Jerdoggiedog: That would be Staten Islynn, thank you very much. Seriously though, there are girls named Ireland (including Kim Basinger & Alec Baldwin's daughter) and now people are starting to spell that Irelyn.

"My girlfriend's name is Lynn, she spells her name l-y-n-n. My old girlfriend's name is Lyn too, but she spells her name l-y-n. Sometimes I call my new girlfriend by my old girlfriend's name, and she can tell because I don't say 'nn' as long." - Mitch Hedberg

I was surprised not to see any form of "Rosalynn." That seems like such a common name. Oh well. And there was no way I was gonna try multiple forms of the same name like Caitlyn/Kaitlyn/Katelyn...

@gwukelic: Thanks! I was pretty surprised it got published. On the down side, I have to watch the rating of the quiz plummet as it's exposed to lots of name-quiz-haters. Oh well.

I've seen kids named Brooklyn and Manhattan. As of yet, no Bronx, Staten Island or Queens. I'm surprised how popular a name Jocelyn has become. For the longest time the only one I knew of who had that name was my niece, and now I see it quite often. Was there someone famous named Jocelyn that I failed to notice?

Jocelyn became big around the same time as Ashley, both belonging to the category of "British mens' names with y's in them that eventually became American girls' names."

dollymix, Jocelyn is actually a traditional french name, for both men and women (for women it's typically spelled Jocelyne, which is how my niece now spells her name). But I didn't realize Jocelyn had become a popular male name in Britain.
