A good quiz, but a somewhat odd collection of icons... I know the "too America-centric!" complaint gets thrown around a lot, but essentially in this quiz you have a bunch of international icons and four sportsmen of which only one would be recognized outside the US... and two of them are NFL quarterbacks. Sportspeople like Beckham, the Williams sisters, Schumacher, etc. would be more consistent with the general flavour of the quiz.

honestly, i knew this would happen. I just sat down, picked a random bunch of people and thaaaaaaats it. Not trying to be american or anything...they're just the first people i thought of....sorry, haha

Good quiz, verrrry difficult.
Jan 21st, 2010 at 18:16 GMT
jpm makes an interesting point, and i don't think nickski was trying to be "america-centric". But given that you have an assortment of international politicians, it might be better if you had some more international sportspeople too. That just seems to make sense. And this is even with me only missing Jeter and Bernanke (neither of whom I would have got even if i'd sat here for the rest of my life). Still a really good quiz though, nice work.

I guessed Favre before even getting to his picture. He is in like every Sporcle quiz that requires basic knowledge of sports.

honestly, isn;t sporcle an american website? brits complain all the time about being american centric, what do u expect? make a sporcle.co.uk or something and then there wouldnt be complaining anymore
Jan 21st, 2010 at 22:27 GMT
Yes, Sporcle is an american site, but combining international figures with sports figures that are never heard of outside the Usa can at least be called "remarkable". Or in other words, I knew all except the sports guys :) (well, except Mr Woods of course)
And for all those who think I'm bashing american sports now: no, I'm not, but they just never ever make international media.

Only on Sporcle are Tiger Woods, Barack Obama and Madonna all answers on the same quiz.
Jan 22nd, 2010 at 01:59 GMT
I like that a quiz of eye shots includes those infamous "eyes of Putin." :)
Jan 22nd, 2010 at 14:31 GMT
Wow. You managed to find a picture of Gordon Brown where he looks quite friendly. Good work!
Jan 22nd, 2010 at 18:13 GMT
@BSF5775: I thought it was Bill Clinton.
Jan 22nd, 2010 at 19:31 GMT
Nice quiz. I missed about half because some I didn't recognize, and some I've just never heard of (sure, I know Brett Favre and Derek Jeter by name, but I wouldn't know their faces because I'm not a sports fan). I think it would be cool to do themed versions of this quiz--for example, one with all politicians, one with all sports figures, one with all musicians, etc.

I thought for sure that Maddona was Celine Dion.
Jan 23rd, 2010 at 02:24 GMT
OK, glad I'm not the only one. I was SURE it was Celine Dion, too, and wound up not guessing anyone else. As for the balance, I'd say that a group so nicely representative of international political figures should probably be matched with a more-international group of sports figures. Overall, though, very good quiz. Couldn't believe how hard it was, considering we've looked at some of these people thousnds of times. I'll look forward to part II (with Celine Dion this time)?!
Jan 23rd, 2010 at 03:40 GMT
@BSF5775 I could have sworn it was Trump too! I thought for sure I was the only one haha
Jan 23rd, 2010 at 03:40 GMT
Looks like Putin is staring right into your soul.
Jan 23rd, 2010 at 03:42 GMT
@hahobigshot: Not everyone who claims a quiz is "too American" is British ;-)
Jan 23rd, 2010 at 05:17 GMT
Ws anyone else (Canadian, presumably) convinced that #3 was Ignatieff?
Jan 23rd, 2010 at 17:55 GMT
thebirdgirl: Absolutely! Also, Vladimir Putin has scary eyes.
Jan 24th, 2010 at 20:16 GMT
I was sure that Margaret Thatcher was John Kerry. Wow.

For some reason I did really well on politicians on this quiz. Except, that is, for my own Prime Minister, who looks too - dare I say - good looking :O in that picture for me to recognise him.
Jan 27th, 2010 at 15:44 GMT
is it just me or does Nelson Mandela look white?
Jan 28th, 2010 at 03:12 GMT
man peyton doesnt look like peyton
Jan 28th, 2010 at 17:44 GMT
ive never heard of half these people! lol
Dec 15th, 2010 at 16:50 GMT
The fact less than 9% of people got Gordon Brown shows you how forgettable a PM he is.Good quiz. Maybe look for a coloured photo of no 10
May 28th, 2011 at 18:01 GMT
Going on the eyes alone before I knew who was who, Brett Favre looks kindly, Thatcher looks sad, Obama looks like a regular nice guy but Madonna, Putin, Jobs and Gates look like complete psychopaths. That seems to be fit the public images of everyone but Thatcher and Jobs- maybe they are windows to the soul.
Feb 28th, 2012 at 22:50 GMT
It would be cool if you included David Bowie. He has extremely distinctive eyes; one pupil is more dilated than the other.

peyton manning looks like ed norton
