	@Andy B: No, not remotely familiar with it - that's why I asked for an explanation as if to a space alien! Thanks for giving me something Googlable. I have to say, I seriously doubt the much-quoted figure that this event is watched on TV by a billion people. Most of Europe and Africa is asleep when it happens and the event has zero public exposure in the UK.

	In Falmouth, PA, a goat (stuffed) is traditionally dropped. It is interesting (for 2 minutes) to watch news coverage in PA on New Years Eve just to see all of the strange things we Pennsylvanians drop.

	In Elizabethtown, PA, they drop a giant M&M, Carlisle, PA drops a car, Akron, PA drops a shoe, and Red Lion, PA drops a giant cigar. I must say I was glad to see so many on this list - especially the more unique ones like Lebanon (where they do then eat the bologna), Mechanicsburg, and Dillsburg. Just to confirm the above comment, Falmouth, PA does indeed drop a stuffed goat. I'm actually from Lancaster, PA. We're very proud of our New Years' traditions. Is there nowhere in Idaho that drops a giant potato?
