El_Whizzo : Nov 28th, 2012 at 06:07 GMT 2 points Keats and Yeats were not on my side.
cottontail : Nov 28th, 2012 at 06:25 GMT 6 points Better than I expected, although I have no idea why I typed William Shatner at first.
AndreasC : Nov 28th, 2012 at 09:06 GMT 10 points Lord is not a name, it's a title. Byron's first name was George. If you're looking for L poets there's Lewis Carroll, Richard Lovelace, Philip Larkin, DH Lawrence, Edward Lear, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Louis MacNeice and Leigh Hunt.
Nol_Solano : Nov 28th, 2012 at 09:15 GMT 1 point @El_Whizzo: They were too busy being on my side. Did you get weird lover Wilde?
BonnieH : Nov 28th, 2012 at 13:31 GMT 8 points @AndreasC: I thought the same thing; however, he was known as "Lord" or "Byron" and nobody (not even his mother according to at least one biography) called him George.
Stran : Nov 28th, 2012 at 13:54 GMT 4 points Ah, Mr. Chekhov, I tried every spelling but the correct one!
needapausebutton : Nov 28th, 2012 at 17:08 GMT 4 points @AndreasC: Sorry, I should have made it clear in the game notes that I'm looking for their "names" as they are known. The author of "Childe Harold's Pilgrimage" or "She Walks in Beauty" is known as Lord Byron; so perhaps I also should have titled the answer column "missing word". I've listed the answers alphabetically, and I don't think many players would have thought of "George Byron" anyways. I also wouldn't make a quiz about famous song writers and require players to give a "D" answer with the clue "Bob ___" - "Blowin' in The Wind" -- and only accept the answer "Zimmerman". Thanks for publishing the quiz, Sporcle!
ezois : Nov 28th, 2012 at 17:58 GMT 1 point Chekhov has an h in it. ::sigh::
needapausebutton : Nov 28th, 2012 at 19:36 GMT 6 points A huge thanks to the busy bees at Sporcle HQ, who have graciously adjusted the wording of the game notes for me, within MINUTES of my request! THANKS!
AndreasC : Nov 28th, 2012 at 21:22 GMT 3 points I'm happy now. Thank you for a good quiz.
needapausebutton : Nov 28th, 2012 at 21:54 GMT 3 points @AndreasC: Thanks for helping make the quiz better. And taking the time to comment again, as you just did, was a very nice gesture which I truly appreciate.
willwoodlen : Nov 29th, 2012 at 03:35 GMT 2 points Excellent quiz, and thanks for including Keats, my favorite poet. As for Byron, I'm glad for the happy conclusion to the discussion, but I would add that "George Byron" wasn't his name, anyway. It was George Gordon. The "Byron" is used only as part of his title.
