Right. I'd like to make this a collaborative venture if you want to offer bloody-good alternate decoys, I may swap some out.

Well, technically, he wasn't described as "pushing up the daisies", just that he *would* be pushing up the daisies, if he hadn't been nailed to a perch. (Still, it's a fair cop.)

Tahnan: Yeah, I debated that one. OK, better that I take that one out. You owe me a good "dummy" clue now, ok? ;)

Bwa-ha ha! Nice quiz. I just had the idea to do this, and behold... it's been done!
How about:
it's feeling better
soiled it's armor
bottom boiled
permanently pissed
bowels unplugged
attacked by a bat
sadly neglected
Oh, I could go on...

Chewy: I added the bat; and your last suggestion might apply to this "sketch" itself so far ;)

I was just about to make this quiz. I hadn't noticed you'd beaten me to it by 2 months already. The most John Cleese-esque decoy I came up with is he has "passed into parrot purgatory". Other suggestions:
in the late stages of rigamortis
no longer operative
its spark of vitality has been snuffed out
nought but a vessel for the maggots
pecked the bucket
completely devoid of sentience

@bazmerelda: thanks, and I've added the purgatory and bucket decoys.
And don't think I didn't notice that "editor's peck"! Thank you. A case of spam is in the mail.
