I'm really not a sports fan but I still got a big chuckle out of "Scalabrine". Nicely done.

@Jo1987 despite the resemblance to dumplings, gnocchi are actually pasta.

That's a pretty vague definition of pasta, since neither Maultschen (German noodle) or Gnocchi (made from potatoes mainly) are pasta, as in Italian noodle dish. Some others I've never heard, so there might be more. Is the term pasta used that widely in the US or is it the quiz creator's definition?

Surprised tagliatelle is in the bottom half of the list. I'm sure I come across it in menus (in the UK) far more often than manicotti, ziti and rotelle.

Scalabrine = a white pasta which, despite its best efforts, isn't very good.

No offense, but .04% sounds correct to get all 20. I have never heard of most of these foods, although this quiz makes me hungry for pasta.

@pdu: It might be a US thing. The book of pasta types on my bookshelf includes both, for instance, as does the fresh pasta store near my house. If you really wanna be confused you should look at some American Chinese restaurant menus, where soup dumplings and pork buns are sometimes listed under "pasta" as well.

Going into this, I was thinking, growing up in a heavily Italian area has prepared me for this. I will totally beast this quiz. Let's just say I was inadequately prepared.

Alfabeto just *sounds* fake, like something you'd make up to describe your letter-shaped spaghetti-O's.

@milgita: to be fair, Wikipedia describes gnocchi as 'potato dumplings' and 'an alternative to pasta'

Either use Italian names or English ones. For example, 'macaroni' is English for 'maccheroni'.

Sporcletti or Sporcletoni might have been more convincing .And no Vermicelli ? Just as well ."Vermicelli", means, literally, "little worms", and is so-called because of the worm-like shape of the pasta. Bon appetit

If you're going to draw the line at Gnocchi (and as an Italian person I consider it pasta because it's prepared and treated exactly as pasta) then you must also draw it at ravioli and tortellini which are filled doughs and more representative of a dumpling than simple pasta. The inclusion of potato doesn't make the difference since clearly pasta can be make with most anything, most often spinach and tomato mixed into the dough. Tri-color pasta anyone? Besides, the quiz was about real vs. made-up pasta names not about what is and what is not considered pasta.

Even though gnocchi is considered a pasta, it is now replaced due to the confusion and debate. @fudo, the spelling of fettucce was fixed; good catch.
