	Great idea for a quiz, but I agree with the above post - for 90% of those I didn't even need to think, you just write the language of the country you've listed. Get rid of that category and you're sorted.

	Lao is now accepted for Laotian, Khmer for Cambodian, Farsi for Persian, and Finnish is now longer accepted for Scandinavian languages.

	More stuff needs to be accepted for "Native American Languages" and "African Languages." I typed Cherokee, Algonquin, Sioux, Lakota, and Iroquois for the former, and Yoruba, Igbo, Wolof, and Swahili for the latter. Got nada.

	Parsi should also be allowed for Persian. And I don't know what your source is, but ideally you should separate Cantonese and Mandarin.

	Nice idea but there are definitely problems with the execution. Grouping some languages makes no sense - if you are going to group African languages and others why not group Germanic, Romance etc., by which I mean don't group any. Also, you have of course not accounted for any multilingualism, please specify clearly what you define as ones spoken language. Is the lack of Dutch an oversight or it just didn't make the cut? Was surprised to not see it here - if only I could just check your source myself.

	There is absolutely no need or reason to accept "nativized" language names like Farsi or Magyar. The game is played in English, therefore all language names should be entered in English.

	The groupings don't make sense indeed. What's the source for this? I found one here - http://www.mla.org/map_data - which uses the 2000 US Census. Results there are largely similar but it doesn't use these groupings. @betraisefold: I guess Dutch just didn't make the cut. The 2000 census gives 150,396 Dutch speakers. Note that Pennsylvania Dutch (83,426 speakers) is not Dutch but is a language in its own right, derived from German dialects.

	@leob Get out of the stone age. Languages are often referred to by their anglicized names AND "native" names. In fact, I have heard Farsi and Magyar far more often, respectively, than Persian and Hungarian.

	Accept Serbian or Croatian for Serbo-Croatian please. Serbs and Croats do not consider their language to be the same anyway.

	I'll split the baby on Farsi and Magyar... In the State Department, we study Farsi, not Persian, and Hungarian, not Magyar. And my family, Hungarian, speaks Hungarian. If I asked my family, in English, to speak Magyar, they'd laugh at me. Also, Serbo-Croatian should also include Bosnian and Montenegrin, even though speakers of those languages will fight you to the death that they are different... they're not.

	Heh, the usual banter about what's a language and what's not. My neighbour is from Croatia but insists that she speaks "Bosnian". When I asked her what's the difference, she said she didn't know any Croat so she didn't know what the differences are. Go figure! (BTW it should also accept Serbo-croat, since that's what we all called it while Yugoslavia existed.)

	PS I have another neighbour who says her language is "Hungarian", but at school we were taught it was "Magyar". And yes I'm in the UK!

	To Abanazerb: Magyar translated into English is Hungarian (or Hungary depending on how it is used in a sentence), so the term Hungarian is acceptable as a language (think of it as how Espanol translated into English means Spanish- that's how Magyar is). However, I think that the grouping for the languages are not right- they should be omitted & placed into other, or they should be individually listed. I was disappointed that you forgot to mention American Sign Language... which is a fairly popular language in the US.
