| This ranking has many failures. Among the criterias that are considered, I don't see "equality of rights" anywhere. Or how other factors than citizenship (like money or weapons) can give someone more rights than others. Or how big media corporations can become semi-monopolies and broadcast pro-regime propaganda that would make autoritarian regimes jealous. It almost seems like this ranking has been designed to put the USA very high, when in fact it should be much lower.
While I fully agree that, in terms of freedoms, the US are a full democracy, their political system is completely distorted by financial disparities, by institutional lobbyism and by the propaganda influence of the think tanks and the big media corporations.
As a French Canadian, I consume both the american and the French medias, and I can confirm that the medias in France are much more balanced, much less mind-numbing. |
