Wow, Kazakhstan? Also surprised that Canada and Brazil made the list, but the United Kingdom didn't.

Canada and Brazil have a lot of German immigrants and descendants; Kazakhstan I imagine is the descendants of ethnic Germans deported by Stalin from the Volga region. It also has approx. 500,000 Koreans deported by Stalin from the Korean border regions, and other ethnic groups from the Caucasus, Baltics, Poland, etc. It's like an involuntary melting pot.

The one I really miss here is France with Alsace/Lorraine -there should be at least 310k German speakers there

You should think of extending the list by Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Liechtenstein, Netherlands (?) ...

what is your source? and the about 3-5% of the US speaks German, the number should be way more than that.

10% of Germans don't speak German? I think thats a little off, or outdated.
