The 1991-1999 guy surprised me. Great quiz. One of the best on here...

Good quiz! I can't believe the same person produced that insane "Top 200 Players of All Time" quiz.

The list kind of exposes a minor flaw in WAR...someone like Maddux clearly wasn't the best active player in 2008, it's just that he had the longevity to attain a high number. WAR is the best metric so far devised when comparing players on a season-by-season basis, but it's not perfect as a tool for measuring and comparing careers.

Ditto what Antithesys said. WAR also functions as a compiler stat. Cool idea, though.

I'm not sure why that is a flaw. Babe Ruth wasn't the best home run hitter in 1935, but he was still the active career leader. "Best" and "most" are separate concepts.

We can call it a quirk then. Of course, if career WAR isn't "best" it means this quiz is incorrectly titled :p

Yet another Blyleven for the Hall of Fame argument. Good quiz.

I wish I could triple-vote down Antithesys's post. Really? A guy at the end of a 20-year career in his 40's wasn't the "best" player that year? Stunning. The quiz says what it's looking for.

It doesn't mean best player OF the year, it means best player IN the year. As in, the player who is best who was playing in that year. Anyways, I woulda done better if I hadn't been solely thinking of hitters.
