Tampa Bay Rays is missing. And I really don't think the Buffalo Sabres are named after any kind of animal.

"Penguins" doesn't work without Pittsburgh. And the Rays, Diamondbacks, and (arguably, but probably at least as a bonus) Predators are all missing - was this quiz made before 1998? :)

@ swellwrench and LucasEwalt, the Rays are not named after an animal any more. They were the Devil Rays which were named after the animal but now they are just the Rays named after "a beacon that radiates throughout Tampa Bay and across the entire state of Florida."

Well if you're going to go that route on the Rays (because Rays still are animals, even if that's not what the team name specifically means), you certainly can't count the Sabres either, since they're named after a type of sword, and not a sabretooth tiger or whatever a sabre is supposed to be.

I do believe that the Atlanta Thrashers are missing.

Yeah, the Thrashers, which are named after Georgia's state bird, plus maybe the Chargers, which are named after horses, I believe.

No the Chargers name is an arbitrary one that was submitted in a fan contest that has no relation to an animal

to the first comment ^^ the Rays are not an animal anymore. they used to be Devil Rays, but the Rays that remains is for rays of sunshine. therefore, not an animal

A Maverick is NOT an animal. Unless we're talking about Sarah Palin, of course.

@ bronxbomber2, thank you thats what I was saying there not named after the animal anymore so why would they be on this quiz. @ mokos, a maverick is a type of stray cattle animal

Pacers are not an animal, nor are the Bills. The Pacers refers to a pace car in the Indy 500. The Bills were named after Buffalo Bill Hicock. Also, the Mavericks are not an animal. The logos do not necessitate an animal!

The Mavericks nickname is actually named after a TV show called "Maverick" but their logo does show a type of horse. I took them off because the team name does not refer to an animal

The name Pacers originally refers to harness racing horses, so it should at least be a bonus.

The Rays are named after an animal, the "Ray" is on the sleeves of the current uniform, and also, they have a "Ray" tank in centerfield of Tropicana.

the devil ray on the sleeve of the jersey is just an homage to what the team used to be named....the tank in centerfield is also still there from when they were the devil rays....they are now the rays, which does not refer to an animal

i always thought sabre referred to the tiger...i never looked at the logo that closely (i always thought it looked like a slug) but it turns out it is a buffalo, like how the bills also have buffaloes on their helmets.

@vince: Blue Jackets aren't named after an animal. The nickname is in reference to the Civil War.

Hate to break it to you, but if you want Rays counted for the reasons stated, you have to count Mavericks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maverick_%28animal%29

Philadelphia Phillies? I know its spelled wrong, but its a horse. Also, I am not sure a raptor can be considered an animal, but that might be nitpicking...

@gumbyman, the Buffalo refers to the city, not the animal. But that being said if the Thrashers and Bruins are here than in gumbyman's defense the Bills should be too because the logo is a buffalo. And the title ought to be changed to indicate that this is about the logo, not necessarily the name.
