I'm puzzled by the omission of most of Asia. Noodles are important in the cuisines of China and Vietnam (and other countries, for all I know). The source (a union of pasta manufacturers in the EU) doesn't say what they mean by pasta -- must it be made of durum wheat, or do all noodles count?

You're really not gonna take "USA"? Only "United States" is acceptable? Child please...

Accept "US", as most quizzes do.

I don't know whether couscous counts as pasta or not, but that thinking at least gave me Tunisia, and that's enough to satisfy me.

So why is Britain producing such little pasta? Do they just import all their pasta from continental Europe?

I agree with beth61's comment. I would have bet the house that China was #1 on this list. Confusingly, Japan makes the list, though. My history book tells me that Europeans learned about pasta making from the Chinese via Marco Polo.

Argh, argh... I got Egypt, guessed Libya, Morocco, and Algeria, but Tunisia slipped my mind. I had my guns on Equatorial Guinea, though. You never know where it'll pop up.
