Good 10 minutes of mental math there. All 12 with 5 seconds to go. Phew.

For 11, you don't need to do any real math. Just add every two consecutive digits together and put them between the first and last, carrying over if you get a sum more than 10: 11 = 1,(1+1),1 = 121 121 = 1,(1+2),(2+1),1 = 1331 and so on
