Similarly horse racing's not a sport because tho horses ARE athletes, they're also horses.
As for tennis and golf, they're rich people sports if they're sports at all. Tennis is at least a great legitimate athletic competition, but it's ruined by its associations. Crowd has to be quiet, all very proper and very rich, and the Duchess hands everyone their trophies at the end. Golf simply isn't a sport. Old men (and not 40+ year old, but 50 and 60+ year olds) can, if they're skilled enough, out play far younger players. And everyone's wearing khakis and polo shirts. Nothing you can do in khakis and polo shirts is a sport. |
