I'm definitely open to suggestions, so if there are any sandwiches I should add (or get rid of) let me know.
Nov 16th, 2010 at 23:49 GMT
accept burger, cheeseburger and pb&j
Nov 17th, 2010 at 00:29 GMT
In Chicago, we call the french dip sandwich an italian beef sandwich
Nov 17th, 2010 at 00:37 GMT
@dumpsterdiver @aaronjames806 I've added your suggestions as alternates.
Nov 17th, 2010 at 01:08 GMT
the monte cristo looks an awful lot like a croque monsieur. they're both basically a grilled ham and cheese. i don't know what other people think but maybe you could accept croque monsieur as a valid answer as well.
Nov 17th, 2010 at 02:07 GMT
I've never heard of the vietnamese one; it just looks like a veggie sub to me.
Nov 17th, 2010 at 02:19 GMT
Popular sandwiches here in New York that you might consider adding: chicken parm, meatball hero, bacon/egg/cheese (or sausage/egg/cheese).

I am so hungry now.

I'm from North Carolina, where we pride ourselves on our pulled pork, but we mostly just call them barbecue sandwiches. Maybe add that as an alternative? Fun quiz!
Nov 17th, 2010 at 03:28 GMT
This quiz made me hungry, and I just ate. A few other classics: lobster roll, sloppy joe, gyro, and the patty melt (or tuna melt).
Nov 17th, 2010 at 03:29 GMT
You could also try adding an italian sub but you'd have a hell of a time adding all the regional variations on the name.
Nov 17th, 2010 at 03:48 GMT
This made me so hungry! A few more I thought of: muffuletta, dagwood, hot brown & fluffernutter. Good job!
Nov 17th, 2010 at 05:44 GMT
I think you should accept "Vietnamese sandwich" for banh mi.
Nov 17th, 2010 at 06:28 GMT
Yeah, this quiz is absolutely hunger inducing, not to be played (or created) before lunch. I'm going to add a few suggestions (definitely pro-fluffernutter) and I've added some alternates from the suggestions. If you find yourself wondering what a Banh Mi is, definitely see if there's a vietnamese place that sells them nearby. They are absolutely delicious, and well-worth an out of the way trip.

fwiw, pulled pork is known as hog roast in the UK
Nov 17th, 2010 at 16:18 GMT
Good thing I just ate!
Nov 17th, 2010 at 17:15 GMT
I wanna see a hoagie! And I second Sloppy Joe, Dagwood and Tuna Melt!
Nov 17th, 2010 at 20:12 GMT
Nice inclusion of the ice cream sandwich.
Nov 17th, 2010 at 20:31 GMT
as a person from philly, that cheesesteak was clearly made somewhere outside the city...fun quiz nonetheless
Nov 17th, 2010 at 21:25 GMT
Agree with DocHalladay. Also as a person from Philly, I could've sworn the po' boy was a chicken finger grinder.
Nov 17th, 2010 at 21:47 GMT
Okay guys, because I love the cheesesteaks I've had in philly so much, I updated it to a Gino's with whiz. Last time I was there I went to Jim's, and it was pretty darn good.
Nov 17th, 2010 at 21:50 GMT
hot dog? italian sausage? sloppy joe? panini?
Nov 17th, 2010 at 23:02 GMT
aaronjames806, i am also from chicago, and an italian beef sandwich is not the same as a french dip. italian beef is not served with au jus on the side, and it contains giardeniera (forgive the spelling). additionally (and to be even more picky), the bread is never sliced the way the french dip in the picture is if it's an italian beef sandwich. good quiz, though

KFC Double Down! Make Sporcle ring with a chorus of "eeew"s.
Nov 18th, 2010 at 01:09 GMT
Everywhere I've been (ie Canada), the french dip is called a Beef Dip.
Nov 18th, 2010 at 01:22 GMT
Fun quiz. Fluffernutter is also called fluff n' nutter.

Hey I'm proud of the restraint shown by all you Sporclers - 30 comments and no one has threatened anyone with a Knuckle Sandwich!
Nov 18th, 2010 at 02:22 GMT
In the UK, "grilled cheese" is more often called "toasted cheese", "cheese on toast" or "cheese toastie". Nice quiz.
Nov 18th, 2010 at 05:18 GMT
Oooooh yea! Sandwhich time yea!
Nov 18th, 2010 at 13:57 GMT
Great quiz! Could you please accept pb&f or fluff for the 'fluffernutter'?
Nov 18th, 2010 at 14:47 GMT
Nov 18th, 2010 at 15:41 GMT
i also grew up around chicago and wanted to second what swills said about aarons comment. the italian beef is a completely different sandwich than the french dip in every city including chicago
Nov 18th, 2010 at 16:29 GMT
haha i like the random ice cream sandwich in there
Nov 18th, 2010 at 17:18 GMT
Now I have to choose one of these to actually get for lunch? Damn you sporcle.
Nov 18th, 2010 at 17:26 GMT
Great Quiz! I kept trying Peanut butter and fluff, then peanut butter and fluffernutter but never came up.
Nov 18th, 2010 at 17:49 GMT
"breakfast sandwich"? That doesn't seem to fit with the rest, as it's not a specific sandwich. I could call the others a "lunch sandwich" if I wanted to. Please accept "peanut butter and fluff" for the Fluffernutter. That's what I've always called it.
Nov 18th, 2010 at 18:38 GMT
I kept typing in "fluffanutter" Ugh.....but great quiz! Now I'm hungry again.
Nov 18th, 2010 at 18:47 GMT
Excellent quiz! Add hotbrown, egg salad sandwich, sloppy joe, and hot dog!
